Fall-Making Memories

I just fall in love with Fall each year.  Sometimes here in Florida it doesn't much resemble my memories of Fall at all!  Sometimes it's hard to get "in the mood" when you're trying to keep cool.  We wane for those moments when sweaters and jeans can be pulled from the depths of our closets.  The days of open doors, windows and blowing ocean breezes.  (When the windows are open I'm become so aware of how LOUD my family is and how LOUD the dog barks.)

This is a season to enjoy!  Fall seems to usher in a slower pace.  A time when I realize that my children are growing at the speed of light.  My son's voice is starting to drop and my little girls feet are getting so big.  She has lost all her toddler-hoodness and is now entering little lady-ness.   She can create quite a stir in our house when she wants too.  I see my husbands likeness in my son everyday.  They make me laugh and teach me more about me everyday!

I decided this year we would do some specific Fall crafts.  We often to candy making and cookie baking and some sort of pumpkin carving.  This year I came across a cool craft and we are going to give it a whirl.  First, let me say I am a Pottery Barn-a-holic on a Wally-Mart budget so I love when you creative folks out there come up with a cheaper way to get the look.  Check it out over at Living with Linsday

We are going to the pumpkin patch this Saturday and will make carmel apples, carmel popcorn and some of these cute pumpkin creations. I love that they will last until WE want to carve them.  I'll post some pictures later.  Yeah, I'm excited.

There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven. Ecc. 3:1

Are you enjoying the season you're in?  It's hard amoung the hustle, fast-driving, grocery-shopping, laundry-hogging days that seem to blur our existence to find joy.  Pure joy and happiness that only comes from living a life for Christ.  I tend to let my Type-A personality get in the way of true joy.  Like a toddler at heart I hear my heart telling God, "No, I can do it all by myself."  My controlling nature tends to shut out Gods desire for me.  When I choose my way over His way I'm displeasing my Father.

23-27Then he told them what they could expect for themselves: "Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You're not in the driver's seat—I am. Don't run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I'll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you? Luke 9:23 (The Message)

Can you think of a time when you shut God out?  Do you like to be the one in the drivers seat?

Prayer
Lord, help me to focus on you and be more self-sacrificing.  Help me to let go of my pride, my selfishness and let You lead.  I want to follow hard after you! Amen.

  1. Came over because I noticed that I was on your blogroll -- thanks for that! Loved looking back at your posts... really want to encourage you in your 9/9 post! I try so much to do all of those things, too, but lately I'm doing okay at meal planning and couponing (which is not, actually, a word! :-) It just makes life so much more peaceful to be on top of that -- and I will take peace any way I can get it!

Loved this post, too. I confess I'm not loving this season -- of weather or of life. I am allowing my calendar to be my god, not God. God is helping me clear my calendar of things He has not designed for me, but it is a slow process.
